Krav Maga
This method is taught to all Israeli Defense Force recruits. It is very easy to learn and brutally effective especially for the young and the quick. Please call me if you have an interest in learning this and I will introduce you to Micha who teaches in the Spring Woodlands area. I know it works...one daughter cracked my ribs using this stuff during training! :)

Pentjak Silat
This art comes from Indonesia and is very effective...even beautiful in it's application and use. It is as much a dance as it is a fighting art. If you have been to one of my CHL classes, most of the disarm and retention techniques are from Silat. Thanks to Pa Yusef and Victor for their gift to me. It is often taught to the beat of a drum and bells. The drum in the picture was a gift and was hand made by Bruno in Berkeley...one of my most prized possessions.

Silat is best taught between one teacher and 1 to 3 students. In its proper form, it is given as a gift and no payment is expected but small favors or food items can be given to the teacher from time to time. It takes a lot longer to learn than Krav Maga but the movements will stay with you for a lifetime.
