1.

What kind of handgun should I buy?

As in most areas of life, the answer is...it depends.  However, a wise man once said "The first rule of a gun fight is to HAVE A GUN!"  The best gun is the one that you will carry with you or have near you most of the time.  If you buy a gun that is too heavy, it will not be on your hip or in your purse when you need it.  It will be safely locked away because it was just "too much trouble" to take it.

All other things being equal, the best answer is "Hey mister, get yourself a Glock!"  In the 14 years that I have been teaching the CHL class, the Glock has malfunctioned the least.

2.

How should I carry the gun after I get my license?

Ladies:  If you are not comfortable in clothes that will conceal the gun, it is best to keep it in your purse...just hang on to the purse!  The best purse is one that has straps that will allow the purse to hang off your shoulder with your strong hand resting in the purse and on the handle of the gun. That way, you can have your keys in your other hand as you walk toward your car, with your head on a swivel looking for any assailants. Short strapped purses do not free up your hands properly.

Gentlemen:  In a holster on your hip or under you arm in a shoulder rig.  A "small gun alternative" is in your pocket but if you carry this way, please carry UN-CHAMBERED!  We need not discuss what can go wrong with a gun in that position but you can use your imagination!

3.

How many guns can I carry?

The law does not restrict the number of guns that a CHL holder may carry.

4.

How long is the CHL class?

You are required to be with an instructor for at least 10 hours.
